We are Ali, Al and Dot Cantlay, a Scots/Irish family living in South East London.
With Ali not currently teaching and Al being offered volutary redundancy we are taking the opportunity to take a break from work, school and everyday life in London. Despite having never towed a caravan in our lives, we've bought a 6-berth caravan are taking off around Europe for 6 months.
So far we've had one towing lesson, done lots of planning and are preparing to homeschool Dot (!) our 8 year old daughter.
Ali has done a year out travelling in the past , but not with a child in tow, nevermind a 7m long caravan. Our plans are coming together in the sense we have an idea of route, some campsites and ferries. In between these we are trying to be more fluid.
We're excited about all the amazing places and sites we will see, spending time together, having freedom for a while, experiencing different cultures and soaking up the sun in Croatia, Greece and Italy.
On the other hand there's more than a few worries, including how we will cope towing the van (Al), homeschooling Dot (Ali), not having a washing machine (Ali) and living in the same room together for half a year (all of us).
We leave on 1 March 2015 and we still have lists as long as our arms and legs to complete. Life is quite stressful but the end is in sight!
